Crash program to improve education

The Education Ministry has launched a crash program to improve the
quality of school education in the country.
According to the School Education Quality Improvement Program, SEQIP,
a series of workshops for GCE O/Level students will be held on Saturdays
from September 11 in all National Schools.
These workshops will be organised by the Quality Improvement Division
of the Education Ministry incollaboration with the National Institute,
Education examinations Department, and the Principals of National
Schools.The Examination department has prepared the modules for the
workshops with model questions to be sent to the National Colleges where
the workshops are held.
A similar program for the GCE A/Level Examination will also be
launched. The revision workshops for Advanced level subjects will be
held at National schools from February to July next year.Under the new
program all teacher vacancies in the schools will be filled soon, said
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane. Five hundred and fifty English
teachers and 3,174 aesthetic teachers will be recruited soon.The
Examination to recruit English teachers was held in 60 centres in
Colombo on Saturday. The science teacher vacancies will also be filled
with those who passed out from the colleges of Education, he said.
