Foreign Ministry expands consular service

Steps have been taken to expand the Consular Service of the Foreign Ministry on the directives of the Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris.

The Consular division of the Foreign Ministry presently housed at the Board of Investment Building in Colombo Fort, be expanded and refurbished and adequate amenities provided to nearly 800 people who visit the place weekly.

It had been brought to the Minister's notice that toilet facilities and cafeteria services were not satisfactory and crowds were seen congregating outside on the street due to lack of seating arrangements.

The Ministry also intends getting more space on the 3rd Floor of the building with a view to streamline the provision of services.

Minister visited the Consular section last Friday along with R. M. A. Ratnayake, Additional Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry, M. Ravindran, Director-General, Consular Section and W. M. Seneviratne, Additional Secretary in charge of the Consular Section.
