Water for low income families

The Water Supply and Drainage Ministry has decided to minimise the waste of water and ensure the provision of drinking water to the people.

At present the problem of 'non revenue water' has aggravated in the Colombo city.

A common water service has been provided to the Colombo city which has resulted in the waste of water and related problems.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has focused its attention on providing private water connections to the people, a Ministry spokesman told the Sunday Observer.

A discussion on the 'Non Revenue Water' project implemented by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board was held at the Ministry chaired by Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardene on July 15, he said.

'If new methods are not adopted to streamline the "non revenue water" scheme, it will have its impact on the national coffer." he said.
