Trinity and Mahamaya Win senior boys and girls c’ships

ATHLETICS: Mahamaya Girls’ Collage, Kandy won five age group team championships while Trinity College, Kandy won three age group team championships at the Kandy District Track & Field meet. It was organized by the Kandy District Athletic Association held at the Bogambara Stadium over the week-end.

Mahamaya girls came on top of the girls (seniors) Trinity won the overall boys championship (seniors).

Over 60 teams of girls and boys participated in this annual competition held for the 10th year. The Chief Guest on the opening day was Nandana Wickremage, Group Director, Head of Marketing and Sales of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. and the Guest of Honour was Gamini Kulatunge, Supdt. of Prisons, Kandy.

On the final day, the Chief Guest was K. Kekulandara, the Secretary of the Chief Ministry & the Ministry of Education, Central Province.

Following are the results:


Fastest in 100 metres girls under 15...... Budhini Samarasinghe of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy who won the 100 metres for girls under 15 receives certificate from the Principal of Mahamaya Indra Vithanachchi. Also in the picture Gamini Obeysekera, Deputy Director of Education (with tie).

A double win...... P. N. Ranaweera of Trinity College (Centre) won 80 metres and 100 metres for boys under 11 flanked by P. N. Ranaweera of St. Anthony’s College, who came second in 100 metres (on left) and K. S. S. Jayasekera of Senarathwela Junior School who came third in 100 metres.

Winner of 200 metres boys under 15: N. Gunathilake of Trinity College who won the 200 metres for under 15 receives trophy and certificate from the Deputy Principal of Mahamaya College Asoka Dissanayake.

Under 14: Trinity College, Kandy: runners-up: Ranabima Royal, Gannoruwa.

Under 15: St. Anthony’s and Trinity (joint champions).
