President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his Government's rapid development of
post-conflict educational activities in the Jaffna Peninsula.
The Additional Education Director in the North Thirupathi Selvaratnam
detailed the development in the education sector in the North, following
the end of conflict in the region.
Thirupathi Selvaratnam told the Sunday Observer that apart from
fifteen out of 424 schools in the North are functioning smoothly with
the enthusiastic involvement of teachers and students.
"The teachers and students are now concentrating totally in their
educational activities without any interruption. Therefore a greater

The additional Director also added that the schools, which remained
within the high security zone in the North have also now been handed
over to the department of education, and the foremost among those
schools, Vasavilan Central College, in the Palaly area would be
