An Indian investor has forwarded a proposal to the Urban Development
Authority (UDA) to build a mega mixed development project in the
proposed Nawam Mawatha/ Beira Lake area development project.
According to a UDA official, the investor has forwarded a proposal to
build a hotel and residential complex next to the Nawaloka Hospital in
the former Colombo Commercial Company premises.
Several local entrepreneurs too are ready to invest in this area,
mainly in the leisure sector.
Many floating restaurants too are to be built in the Beira Lake from
the side of Nawam Mawatha without disrupting the functions of the
temple. Chairman, UDA, Janaka Kurukulasuriya said that rehabilitation of
the area near the Beira Lake has already started.
He stressed that the Gangarama Temple would not be affected in any
way under this development plan.
