Boon for house-builders

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will launch a
project for house builders with financial assistance from banks on the
initiative of Construction, Engineering services and Housing Minister
Wimal Weerawansa.
The house builders could obtain housing loans at minimum interest
rates and technical assistance will be provided by the NHDA - said NHDA
General Manager L.S. Palansuriya.
A series of discussions were held with banks for the purpose. The
People's Bank has already agreed to provide Rs. 1,000 million to house
builders under the NHDA, the General Manager said.He said that year 2011
has been declared as "Janasevena" year. People will be encouraged to
build their houses.
The NHDA has identified that the country needs one million houses at
present, he said. The "Sevana Piyasa" will set up 25 units islandwide to
help house builders, condominium owners and tenants, he said.
The first "Sevana Piyasa" was set up at the NHDA headquarters and it
will be extended to the Maligawatta NHDA office and other branches, he
said.
