Attempted extortion bid:

Three suspects who posed as TMVP members held

Three suspects from Trincomalee who posed as members of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) party were taken in for questioning by Security Forces personnel in Jaffna on Friday. According to Army sources, the suspects had told A. Atputharaja R. Sutharsan and J. Vasantharoopan of Jaffna that they were the members of the TMVP and could help them seek political asylum abroad.

Mystery shrouds slaying of brothel keeper

It all began at the weekly “Police Mahajana -Sahanadinaya at the police headquarters in Colombo where the public meets the Inspector General of Police and his senior police officers to discuss grievances not resolved by local police stations. It was at one of these meetings that a woman from Kantale complained to IGP Mahinda Balasuriya that her husband had gone missing for about a week in Colombo.
