31,000 domestic economic units to be set up

A total of 31,000 domestic economic units will be set up in five Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Kandy district, under the Divi Neguma program, according to the Ministry of Economic Development.

The National Economic Development program for setting up one million domestic economic units in village level throughout the country has been successfully moving ahead.

Arrangements have been made to establish the domestic economic units in five Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Kandy District covering Hatharaliyedda, Harispattuwa, Galagedara, Akurana and Pujapitiya. This program will cover 310 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the district and 100 domestic economic units will be established in one Grama Niladhari Division. This program is coordinated by the Udarata Development Authority under the Divi Neguma program.

This program is being implemented as per the instructions of Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, District Secretary Gamini Senawirathna, Chairman Amarananda Weerasinghe and Director General, Udarata Development Authority S.M.M.P. Samarakoone. Divisional Secretaries of the AG Divisions coordinate and supervise this program for five divisional Secretariats.
