Victory, a foregone conclusion in remaining local bodies
Leader of the House Irrigation and Water Resources Management
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that with the massive development
taking place in the rest of the local government areas where the polls
have to be conducted, the people would definitely realise the Government
should be given the driving seat in these local government bodies as
well.
The people want to develop their cities and infrastructure facilities
in their areas. Therefore they would definitely vote for the UPFA and
give power in the rest of these local government bodies, the Minister
told the Sunday Observer. The Minister said “each and every poll is
important for the Government. Though we are in power, we don’t want to
take any chances. At present the Government has entered into an era with
victorious note.”
He said the polls have to be conducted for several local government
bodies including some in several key cities. Earlier some of these city
councils were somewhat tilted towards the Opposition. However in order
to further expedite the massive development taken place in these local
government areas, the people will definitely give the power of the rest
of these local government bodies to the Government.
The Minister said the unprecedented victory achieved by the
Government at the recently concluded local government polls has clearly
shown, that despite certain issues on the cost of living, the people
have placed their utmost confidence on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and
the Government. The development carried out by the Government in rural
areas have made a tremendous impact on voters.
