Vegetable prices drop

The major and minor cultivators of vegetables have been left in the lurch since they reserved their crops to go up in prices during this festive season, but to their utter surprise, the prices of all vegetables have dropped drastically by thirty percent in both upcountry and other areas.

This was noticeable during the last Sunday fair and in the markets around the hillcountry.

However, the prices of cauliflower and green peas, which are delicacies among the holiday crowds, fetches around Rs. 800 and Rs. 460 respectively. The other fruit for which the holiday crowds look for, strawberry, fetches Rs. 450 per kilo, and these visitors go in circles looking for same at present in Nuwara Eliya.
