Record holiday makers in Nuwara Eliya
by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
There was a record crowd of holiday makers in Nuwara Eliya locals and
foreigners during the long weekend according to leading hoteliers and
others in the tourist trade.
A senior citizen, a leading lawyer and an octogenarian Veluautham
Vijayasundaram said that such a massive holiday crowd was mainly due to
the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country.
Most of the holiday makers were seen around the Lake Gregory area
which was modernised by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and the Urban
Development Authority recently. One of the biggest attractions during
the April festive season was the Sea-Plane landing more frequently from
Colombo bringing a large number of holiday makers.
The sea plane takes approximately 30 minutes to travel between
Colombo and Nuwara Eliya and it lands in Lake Gregory.
There was a large deployment of police and Army personnel manning the
entire security arrangements due to many VVPs at this holiday resort.
