Tourist arrivals to top 700,000 this year
The number of tourist arrivals recorded an
impressive growth during the first three months of this year
compared to last year, an official of the Sri Lanka Tourism
Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) said.

BoC operations in North successful
The Bank of Ceylon’s financial support has
accelerated recovery in the North and the Bank’s operation in the
North is extremely successful, with a 98 percent loan repayment
rate. The Assistant General Manager (North) of the BoC K.E.D.

The premier state bank, the Bank of Ceylon (BoC)
recorded a pre-tax profit of Rs. 10,053 m in the financial year
2010, a 138.9 percent YoY increase compared to the previous year.

Construction work on the Mattala International
airport progressed in 2010 and phase 1 would be completed by 2013.
The Bandaranaike International Airport expansion project is also in
progress. This includes expansion of the transit area, construction
of a new baggage re-claim area, multi-storey car park and widening
of the existing runway.

New authority to monitor MFIs
An authority will be set up to regulate and
supervise micro finance businesses, for which the Monetary Board of
the Central Bank will set the regulations,principles and standards,
