Plans are under way to provide electricity to all householders including remote villages by 2012, Power and Energy Ministry sources said.

The Government has already met the total electricity requirements of households in Gampaha, Colombo and the Hambantota districts.

Moves are also under way to satisfy the electricity needs of people in other districts by the end of the year, Ministry sources said.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has directed the authorities to cater to the electricity needs of the people even in remote villages.

The Ministry has taken steps to provide electricity to 2,309 households in Ingiriya, Horana, Bulathsinhala, Madurawela, Millaniya and the Bandaragama divisional secretariat divisions in the Kalutara district at a cost of Rs. 103 million under the program to provide electricity for all by 2012.
