The Government of India will assist Sri Lanka to promote vocational training as it is satisfied with vocational training programs implemented by the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Ministry and the Government. Here Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha sign the Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony held at the Ministry recently. Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake, Ministry Secretary S.S. Hewapathirana and Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority Chairman Dammika Hewapathirana look on.

 

Nayaka Thera passes away

Ven. Bulathsinhala Nandarama Nayaka Thera, chief incumbent of the Sri Devamittarama Purana Viharaya, Bulathsinhala, Sri Bodhimalu Viharaya, Amaragedara and Sri Bodhirajarama Viharaya Galahena, Hony.

President of Bulathsinhala Sasanaraksha Mandalaya and Chief Sanghanayaka of Pasyodun Korale East passed away.

The cremation will take place tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. at Bulathsinhala public grounds.

 


Ex-DIG passes away

Former DIG and Director, CID, M.D.A. Rajapakse has passed away. Having joined the police department in 1951 as a sub inspector, he had served in different parts of the island during his 43 years of service.

Promoted DIG (CID), he underwent training in the Scotland Yard in criminal investigation in addition to drug control training in India, Hongkong, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.Funeral will take place today at the General Cemetery, Kanatte.
 


Bypass patient needs help

D.E.F.T. Weerakoon (69) of No. 1B 26/L, National Housing Scheme, Raddolugama is suffering from coronary artery disease and requires urgent bypass graft surgery which would be done at Durdans Hospital, performed by Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Kesava Dev.

The cost of surgery (Rs. 495,000) and for the pulmonary Artery Catheter (Rs. 20,000 and he appeals to the generous public for contributions which may be remitted to Sampath Bank, Nugegoda, A/c No. 100350400855.
