Rally Round Pops to enthrall everybody
by Omar RAJRATHNAM
An evening of evergreen pop songs and dance will unfold from May
13-15 from 7.30 pm at the S. Thomas' College Hall as its students
prepare to present one of the liveliest concerts of this year. Aptly
titled 'Rally Round Pops' the concert is being organised by the
Parent-Teacher Association of STC, directed by renowned stage
personality Vinodh Senadeera and produced by his associate and former
student Marlon Jesudason. The show is a sequel to the successful 'Rally
Round' entertainment series which is being successfully staged this year
for the fifth time.
The night will feature some of the finest hits from the 70s era to
the early 90s where students of the school will recreate the magical
vocals and graceful dance routines of phenomenal vocalists such as
Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and trendsetting bands such as Boney M
and Abba. Choristers of the Canto Perpetua Choir will join the ensemble
to spice up the concert too.
A number of external artistes will perform on the night to add to the
pop frenzy and the gigantic sets resembling the 'Pop' theme being
erected in the corridors leading to the main hall and the colourful
costumes are slated to take everyone down pop's memory lane too.
Preparations are in full wing to ensure that the recreation of the pop
scene is done in style and a carnival will take place at the end of the
concert to make the event a memorable one.
