The elegy and its many faces
Last week I discussed the concept of elegy as it
manifested itself in two classical Indian texts.- the Mahabharata
and the Purananuru. Today I wish to discuss one of my favorite
Sanskrit poems, The Meghaduta, (The Cloud Messenger) in terms of its
elegiac propensities.

Boris Pasternak’s seminal novel, Dr. Zhivago,
generated a great deal of controversy when it was published in 195.
The controversy has, begun again, with a new translation after fifty
years from the death of the author.
