A candid soul of poetry
Prof. Siromi Fernando’s poetry is not only the
impressions of life but also insight into the milieu. They seem to
spring effortlessly from the bottom of her heart. Her philosophy of
life is often expressed through her poetry.
The elegy and its many faces
Last week I discussed the concept of elegy as it
manifested itself in two classical Indian texts.- the Mahabharata
and the Purananuru. Today I wish to discuss one of my favorite
Sanskrit poems, The Meghaduta, (The Cloud Messenger) in terms of its
Dr. Zhivago: The controversy of translations
Boris Pasternak’s seminal novel, Dr. Zhivago,
generated a great deal of controversy when it was published in 195.
The controversy has, begun again, with a new translation after fifty
years from the death of the author.
