Blake in Colombo
US Assistant Secretary of State on South and Central Asia Robert O
Blake will arrive in Colombo during the weekend on a five-day visit of
Sri Lanka and Maldives. Blake, speaking to media in Washington prior to
his departure, said US wants to move forward in its relations with Sri
Lanka. He is expected to visit the North and the East and inspect
USAID-supported programs in the area.
Int'l awards for six Lankan women

The Women Information Network, representing 152 countries and based
in the United States of America presented International Awards of
Excellence to six Sri Lankan women in recognition of their service to
the country.They were First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Dr. Soma
Edirisingha, Neela Wickramasingha, Rozelle Ekanayaka, Shanthi Mayadunne
and Provincial Council member Kalyani Karalliyadde.
Devi Balika’s Roo Chaya, a pictorial success
Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo held its International Photographic
Competition and Exhibition Roo Chaya 2011 at the Colombo Art Gallery
recently.
Schools from India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan Germany, Croatia,
united Kingdom and Australia participated in the expo.
ITN Chairman Rosmand Senaratna was the chief guest while the Cultural
Secretary Chinese Embassy Shen Ming was the guest of honour.
The Roo Chaya photographic exhibition was first held in 2001.
The Photographic Club established 40 years ago has since then
committed itself to improve the artistic talents and vision of its
members.
The Club, the primary object of which is to accustom students to
digital technology organise lecture, field trips and workshops to
inspire its members to develop their inborn talents.
The international exhibition also provides a unique opportunity for
the students to forge new links and friendship with their counterparts
in foreign lands in exchanging photographic images, dissemination of
knowledge and experience.

Trade exhibition and carnival
Jubilee Mela 2011, a trade exhibition and carnival organised by St.
Mary's Youth Association in Mattakkuliya will be held from May 6-8 at
Vystwyke Park, Mattakkuliya.
The exhibition and carnival is in aid of the Building Fund for
renovations and repairs of St. Mary's Church, Mattakkuliya which will
celebrate its 150th year Jubilee in December this year, said the Parish
Priest, St. Mary's Church, Mattakkuliya, Rev. Fr. Calixtus Fernando.
Rev. Fr. Fernando said that there would be several trade stalls and
entertainment for the entire family at the carnival including a
merry-go-round and wheel of death.
Popular musical groups in the country will also perform, he said.
