Science College tame Trinity Lions
by Chris DHAMBARAGE
RUGBY: Science College created a major sensation when they edged out
the more fancied Trinity College outfit by 12 points to 11 points in
their Singer inter school under 19 Division One League rugby tournament
match worked off at Mount Lavinia yesterday.
Science College put up a tremendous performance from the kick off and
collected their points from one goal and one try after having snatched a
close 7-6 lead at half time.
Trinity College who went in as the clear favourites after having
pulled off two easy victories at the beginning of the season came in for
a nasty surprise and could manage to score only a solitary try and two
penalties.
This was a fantastic effort from Science College who were the
complete underdogs having suffered two morale shattering defeats at the
hands of St. Joseph's College (24-28) and St. Peter's College (14-48)
respectively.
In contrast Trinity College took the field brimming with confidence
following a convincing 41-0 win over Kingswood College on Monday. They
had earlier pulled off a record breaking 75-6 victory against S. Thomas'
College Mount Lavinia. Science College really took their home advantage
and went ahead mid way in the first half with a superb try from their
three quarters.
From there onwards they kept the pressure on the opposition through a
series of good moves with the forwards combining affectively. Trinity
College of course kept their hopes alive while converting two penalties
and also scored their solitary try mid way in the second half. However
Science Cwollege scored their match winning try during the latter stages
and held their nerves to pull off a thrilling victory at the end.
