Panadura Big Match ends in a tame draw

The annual 59th Big Match between Moratu Vidyalaya and Sri Sumangala College, Panadura ended in a tame draw at Panadura esplanade.

Resuming at the overnight score of 60 for 6 Vidyalians were shot out for 103 runs with Sumangalian skipper Vimukthi Kaushan doing the damage with 4 for 48 and ably supported by Thilina Dilanka who claimed 3 for 20. In their second essay Sumangalians did much better to score 134 runs with Madava Saranga top scoring with 42 runs while vice captain Aruna Dharmasena and Thilina Dilanka contributing 26 and 25 runs respectively. Janidu Devinda was the most successful bowler for Vidyalians with 5 for 52.

Set to make 140 runs in 34 overs for an outright victory and when bad light stopped play at 4.45 p.m. Vidyalians were 75 for 5 with their star all rounder Sanka Ramesh making 20.

Sri Sumangala: 109 and 134 (Aruna Dharmasena 25, Vimuktha Kaushan 8 Chanaka Roshan 2/26, Janinda Devinda 5/52.

Moratu Vidyalaya: 103 and 75/5 at close (Ishan Pieris 15, Avishka Pieris 13, Sanka Ramesh 20, Vimuktha Kaushan 2/16, Thilina Dilanka 2/29).
