Ragama - Ja-ela dual track opens

The Colombo-Ja-ela dual track railway line was opened by Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama last week. The railway line from Colombo to Puttalam covering a distance of 134 kilometres was a single track since its inception in 1926, which caused a slow journey due to the need to stop the train to facilitate crossings.

The second track from Ragama to Ja-ela has been developed using modern technology and local expertise, at a cost of Rs. 30 million per kilometre. The new dual track is expected to speed up the journey by half an hour. The distance from Colombo to Ja-ela is approximately 20 km.
