Minister denounces TNA MP’s statement
by P. Krishnaswamy
Minister
of Media and Information and Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella
expressed displeasure at TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandren’s
recent media statement that they would meet Chinese and Russian
ambassadors in Colombo and also visit the two countries to seek their
assistance for a political solution and explain ‘other matters’.
The report on Premachandran’s statement appeared in an
English-language daily.
Minister Rambukwella said that China and Russia are two countries
that promptly expressed their solidarity with the Government in the wake
of the UN panel report on purported war crimes and human rights
violations and pledged their support to the Government.
The TNA move is certainly detrimental to the national interest but
the Government would put up with it for the sake of the democratic
rights of every citizen, the Minister said.
Sacrificing their life and limb Sri Lanka’s valiant soldiers restored
democracy in the Northern and the Eastern provinces which were ravaged
by terrorism for three decades.
Taking advantage of the atmosphere of democracy and freedom, some
LTTE cronies, who include sections of the Tamil diaspora, are now taking
recourse to activities that are intended at bringing discredit to their
own sovereign nation and this is a matter for grave concern, the
Minister said.
