Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday stressed the importance of
taking steps to win the world with patience and circumspection as there
is a big conspiracy behind the Darusman report against Sri Lanka. At
present, the Government through its diplomatic channels is engaged in
the process of winning Asians and Africans and enlisting their support
to defeat this conspiracy hatched by the Darusman report, the Minister
told the Sunday Observer.
The Government has already taken steps to canvass support against the
Darusman report and explain the true situation to these countries. Steps
should also be taken to release the LLRC Report and implement its
recommendations.
‘However, we should seriously consider some of the points mentioned
in the Darusman report.
Even President Mahinda Rajapaksa and External Affairs Minister Prof.
G.L. Peiris had also mentioned it. “I think it is a very good
situation”, he said.
According to the Minister, we should first keep in touch with our
foreign friends to defeat this conspiracy. Like China and Russia, India
is vital for us in this regard. Therefore, we could succeed in our
program of winning India as well. Then it would be very easy for us to
face these challenges.
The pro-LTTE elements are continuing their fund-raising campaigns in
UK, Canada, Norway and US. They conduct these fund-raising campaigns
with the intention of re-submitting this proposal to the UN Human Rights
Council and get the support of these countries for it.
These pro-LTTE elements are attempting to canvass support in US and
Asian countries. It is very clear that some of the European countries
are very biased towards the LTTE due to several reasons. One fact is
that they could not stomach the significant victory achieved by us
against the LTTE. Therefore, they have some jealousy and hatred towards
us.
The second important fact is that when some Western countries
attempted to safeguard Velupillai Prabhakaran and the LTTE, the
Government turned it down. This also created hatred among them towards
the Government. In addition, the Tamil diaspora is a very decisive
factor in these countries at every election. In each London based
electorates, there are about 7,000 to 8,000 votes which are controlled
by the Tamil diaspora. Therefore, parliamentarians in UK and Canada are
very keen on the votes of the Tamil diaspora.
In addition, the LTTE-friendly Tamil diaspora spends money lavishly
on some politicians in these countries at every election. Hence some
political parties maintain a very biased stance towards these pro-LTTE
Tamil diaspora, he said. |
