Clubs and schools in CP to get rugger balls on Tuesday

RUGBY: Rugby playing clubs and schools in the Central Province will benefit by the distribution of over 100 rugger balls by the Central Province rugby Football Union (CPRFU) at a ceremony to be held at the Old Trinitians Sports Club, Kandy on Tuesday - May 31 at 10.30 a.m.

The President of the CPRFU and former National Selector Mohan Samarakoon said that the cost of the rugger balls were funded by the International Rugby Board (IRB) through the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU).

He said all rugby playing schools and Clubs including Kandy Sports Club will be donated with good quality rugby balls. Some of the girls schools in Kandy and outskirts who are keen on playing rugby, will be also presented with rugger balls and these schools and clubs were selected by Chairman Rugby Development CPRFU Viper Gunaratne (Snr) and Secretary Gamini Udugama.

This distribution of rugger balls is taking place after a lapse of 3 years in the Central Province and the clubs and schools should benefit much from it. Mohan Samarakoon said that a seven-a-side rugby tournament for lesser known clubs will be conducted at the Aruppola Municipal Grounds on June 26 to take the sport to the village in keeping with the vision "Gamata Kreedawa" (Sports to Village) envisaged in Mahinda Chinthanaya.
