Sri Lanka’s Capital Market showcased at the LSE
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) invited stakeholders of the Sri
Lankan Capital Market to showcase potential and opportunities to
international Fund Managers based in London.
Sri Lankan Capital Market Day was held on June 3 at the LSE with the
opening of the day’s trading by Senior Minister for Monetary
Co-operation Dr. Sarath Amunugama and the Sri Lankan capital market
showcased to a group of over 25 international Fund Managers.
The opening address was by Director Global Development LSE, Tony
Weerasinghe. Dr. Amunugama in his keynote address highlighted the
importance of the current business environment, opportunities provided
by the State and the potential for Sri Lanka to be a regional financial
hub.
A discussion was held with the Chairperson of the Securities &
Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) Indrani Sugathadasa, Chairman of
the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), Nihal Fonseka and the Director General
of the SEC, Malik Cader as panelists.
John Keells Holdings, Hemas Holdings, DFCC Bank, Carson Cumberbatch,
Dialog, MTD Walkers and Expolanka made presentations followed by one on
one meetings with the Fund Managers.
The Sri Lankan delegation was hosted to a round table luncheon
discussion on June 2 by Bloomberg News, which included a television
interview with the Minister and the Chairperson of the SEC.
The Sri Lankan High Commission in the United Kingdom organised an
event at the prestigious Carlton Club where the Minister and the
delegation met members of the British Chamber and the Sri Lankan
diaspora.
