The outgoing Defence Attache of the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka, Colonel Syed Khurram Hassnain Alam paid a courtesy call on Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Ministry of Defence last week. Here the latter presents a memento to Col. Khurram, who will return to Islamabad on Thursday on completion of his stint in Colombo. He will be succeeded by Colonel Sheharyar Parvez Butt who was also present at the meeting.

Puthur bank robbery- CID grills suspects

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the Puthur bank robbery last month took in for questioning six suspects, and quizzed them whether there were others linked to the robbery. The six suspects wanted in connection with the daylight bank robbery at Puthur, Batticaloa last month were arrested recently by a team of police officers led by HQI of the Mannar police following a tip off.

Bandaragama housemaidís death baffles sleuths

Is Bandaragama gradually acquiring the notoriety status of Kahawatte where several women were killed in the past? Two unmarried women had been gruesomely killed at Bandaragama as in Kahawatte, whose killers are still at large. It was on July 23 that the killing of a feeble old servant woman was reported to the Bandaragama police station. She had been strangled to death by unknown assassins. However the motive for her killing is still not clear.
