Local bodies to be more people friendly

Following the conclusion of elections in most local bodies except 23, the Local Government Ministry is taking steps to re-engineer the services of these local bodies to make them more people friendly while improving the infrastructure of 100 local bodies in remote areas under a Rs. 6 billion program with Asian Development Bank assistance.

Elections to remaining LG bodies in Oct/Nov

Elections to the remaining local government bodies will be held in the last week of October or in the first two weeks in November, said a spokesman for the Elections Department. He said that the Kandy Esala perahera and the Deepavali and Haj festivals will be celebrated in the coming months.

Sangaree volunteers to help govt find solution

Till the 2004 Parliamentary election, I was having representation in Local bodies and in Parliament. In 2004 the election was conducted by the LTTE. Not by the Government. As far as the North and the East were concerned the election was conducted by the LTTE. It was the reason for my non-election. The difference should have been made by that. I will give you one example, a senior official who still holds a big position helped the LTTE to get votes.
