Under-utilised Act will not discourage foreign investors, because
this is relevant only to the 37 ventures listed in the Act. Other
countries too take similar decisions to make better use of economic
assets. This is a good signal for foreign investors and Sri Lanka
today needs responsible foreign investors.

The ceramics industry, a major foreign exchange
earner faces a daunting task to stay afloat due to staggering energy
and labour costs, an official of the Sri Lanka Ceramics Council
(SLCC) said. He said Sri Lanka has to compete with low cost markets
such as Bangladesh, India and Vietnam which have gained an edge over
Sri Lanka in the global market.
