Discovery of liquid gas encouraging

The discovery of liquid gas with a heavy hydro carbon content from the two oil wells drilled in the Mannar Basin is encouraging, Director General Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat (PRDS), Saliya Wickramasuriya said.

The drilling of the third oil well in the Mannar basin by CAIRN Lanka Ltd was launched last week.

“We are confident of the presence of a heavy hydro carbon content in the Mannar basin, he said.

The liquid gas samples from the two oil wells have been sent for chemical analysis. On the basis of their report we will be in a position to assess the nature or the size of gas or oil deposits in the Mannar basin, he said.
