by L.S. Ananda WEDAARACHCHI
The Child Protection Authority and the police have launched a full
scale investigation on the presence of over 65 babies and over 13
pregnant women among whom two were underaged at a children's home at
Rawatawatta, Moratuwa.
The Child Protection Authority and the police raided the premises
last week and two employees were taken in for questioning and later
remanded.
Women's Affairs and Child Development Minister Tissa Karalliyadde
said that he had called for a full report from his officials since the
investigations are in progress.
I would not wish to make any comments. It is now in the hands of the
police, he said.
National Child Protection Authority Chairman Anoma Dissanayaka said
that they found four foreign nationals during the raid.
Suspicions have arisen whether it was run for the welfare of the
children or for some nefarious purpose, she said.
