National symposium on floriculture
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
The annual National Symposium on Floriculture Research will be held
on December 15 at the National Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya.
Held for the fourth consecutive year the symposium stages various
floriculture related research findings of university academics and
private companies in the trade.
The symposium is organised by the National Botanical Gardens
Department in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Council for Agriculture
Research Policy (CARP).
"Around 25 researchers will present their findings this year mainly
on floriculture related subjects such as plant protection, agronomy and
post harvest technology," said Director General of the Department of
National Botanical Gardens, Dr. Siril Wijesundara.
"This provides many solutions to the practical problems the business
community in floriculture face," he added.
This will be a key event where the technology, developed by
scientists, will be transferred to entrepreneurs to adopt, Dr.
Wijesundara said.
