Butterfly SC and Friendship TTC are men’s ‘A’ div and women’s TT champs

TABLE TENNIS: Butterfly Sports Club, Astron Sports Club won the men’s ‘A” division and ‘B’ division tournaments and friendship Table Tennis Club won all their matches in straight sets in the women’s division in the veterans All-Island Inter-Club Table Tennis Tournament conducted by the veterans table tennis Association at S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium at Mount Lavinia.

The men’s teams played in two divisions, while the women’s tournament was played in one division.

In the men’s ‘A’ division, “Butterfly Sports Club beat veterans ‘A’ team by 3 matches to 1. The Butterfly Sports Club team comprised: Lalith Priyantha, Dietmar Doering, M. Nazar and Laxman Ranatunge. The runners-up were veterans ‘A’: Dr. G.N. Lucas, M.M.M. Tafir, Rajiva Wijetunge and Sarath Wijesuriya.

In the men’s ‘B’ division, Astron Sports Club won all the matches and became champions while national Savings Bank team became runners-up.

Astron S.C’s team: Gamini Moraes, Percy Welsh, Kumar Samaranayake and Sirimal Fernando. NSB’s team: N. Imbulana, M. Michael, W. Dhammika and N. Cooray.

In the women’s division, Friendship Table Tennis Club won all the matches in straight sets 3/0. The team comprised Namal Gunasekera, Iran Ruwanpathirana and Champs de Silva. The runner – up: Sim Cap Sports Club team: Nilmini Wijetunge, Amara Chandrathilake and Daya Pieris.
