UNHRC vote shows declining US popularity
by L.S. Ananda Wedaarachchi
The resolution against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva
shows the declining US popularity, said Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma. Sri Lanka obtained 15 votes
and eight countries abstained from voting, he said.
However, the USA obtained only eight votes when the resolution
against Syria was moved some time ago.
This also shows USA’s declining popularity in the global arena, the
minister said.
The minister said that all Sri Lankans should stand as one nation
shedding petty differences. We should accept this challenge as true Sri
Lankans.
We should not treat those countries which voted for the US resolution
as our enemies and express our sincere gratitude to the countries which
stood by us at this decisive time, he said.
He said that the chief guest, President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open the
Jamboree and Vice President of the Philippines and Chairman of the Asia
Pacific Regional Scouts Committee Jejomar C. Binay will be the special
guest. |
