N’Eliya ready for festive season
by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya
The pace is being set for the forthcoming April festivities in Nuwara
Eliya by the April Festivities Committee, sports bodies, social
organisations, leading hoteliers and those involved in tourism.
The program is headed by the young and energetic Mayor of Nuwara
Eliya Mahinda Kumara.
Meetings have already been held with different sections of society
including security personnel, to ensure security measures for the large
holiday crowds including locals and foreigners who are expected during
the April Season in this region.
Many new features are being organised by the festivities commitee and
the main seasonal attractions will centre around Lake Gregory where sea
planes land; the new attraction will be the water house boat built by
the Kerala State House Boat Builders to accommodate nearly a 100
tourists, with all modern facilities.
One of the house boats will be ready by April, according to Mayor
Mahinda Kumara.
The Mayor, an eco-tourism promoter himself, requested the holiday
crowds to keep the city clean and tidy while they enjoy their holiday.
He also requested hoteliers, guest house keepers and those involved
in supplying food items to provide hygienic and clean food to consumers.
