Sayura Radio celebrates first anniversary

“Sayura Radio” an exclusive frequency for the fishering community will celebrating its first anniversary tomorrow.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched the “Sayura Radio” at the Peliyagoda Fish Market last year to provide valuable information such as news bulletins and to improve the knowledge of fishermen.

Sayura Radio also broadcasts educational programs for the children of fishermen.

Programs are aired from midnight 12.00 to 4.00 am via frequencies, 92.2 FM, 87.6 FM, 91.2 FM, 95.0 FM, 102.6 FM, and 94.4 FM.

The Sayura broadcasting service was launched on a concept by Minister Rajitha Senaratne with the collaboration of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry is the sponsor of the service.

Minister Rajitha Senaratne said, that the new channel helps connect the fishermen in the deep sea with their relatives.It plays the role of a benefactor to the fishing community providing valuable guidelines and warning of weather changes.
