Phoenix Industries invested $3m to manufacture flowGuard CPVC pipes
and fittings in Sri Lanka.
CEO Phoenix industries, Hasith Prematillake said "This was the first
stage and as sales increase we plan to increase our investment as well.
In Sri Lanka, FlowGuard will be manufactured and marketed under the
brand name Phoenix FlowGuard by Phoenix Industries Limited at their
manufacturing plant in Makandura".
The company appointment is the sole licensee in Sri Lanka to
manufacture FlowGuard potable water distribution systems, manufactured
by Lubrizol USA who deal with Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl Chloride (CPVC)

"As a company, we strive to be important in our customer's success
through collaboration, applied science and demonstrated value" said
Managing Director South Asia for Lubrizol Advanced Materials India
(Pvt)Ltd, Timothy Madden.
Today's industrial operations demand a pipe system that can face any
challenge including highly corrosive chemicals and high temperature.
"For more than 50 years, Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl chloride (CPVC) has
been offering the process industry a superior, corrosion-resistant
piping alternative. This high performance material has proven, through
solid field performance, as well as extensive third-party testing, that
it possesses a unique combination of chemical resistance, mechanical
strength and excellent life-cycle economics, to offer a highly
attractive option for the Construction Industry.", said Madden.
Head of Temprite, Temprite Engineered Polymers, Manoj Dhar said that
in Sri Lanka, as in other developing nations, the market was exclusively
dominated by other polymers, which had replaced the old iron and clay
pipes in the 1970s. "However, customers as well as plumbers are looking
for smarter plumbing solutions and we are here to show them the way".
Dhar said that FlowGuard could withstand higher temperatures than
PVC, contributing towards its popularity for water piping systems in
residences as well as commercial construction.
"It is also lead free and therefore safer, does not propagate fire
and is often preferred for its straight professional appearance.
Its simple solvent cement joining system requires only a few
inexpensive cutting tools and yields a reliable leak free joint within a
matter of minutes. He went on to say that FlowGuard, CPVC performs well
with regard to corrosion resistance. "The material will never pit, scale
or corrode, regardless of the pH or chlorine levels of the water. That
means a longer, reliable performance and full water carrying capacity
throughout the life of the system. In addition, there are no dangers of
lead leaking into the water to create concerns of possible lead
contamination."Today FG piping system is recognised as the most reliable
source of pure drinking water. USA, Canada, the EU and many other
developed countries have plastic piping as their drinking water
distribution system.
