Need for TNA to join PSC stressed
by P.Krishnaswamy
The
TNA should join the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to work out a
political solution to the problems of those in the North and the East
since it will serve as a basis for suitable constitutional amendments
for power sharing, Senior Minister of Scientific Affairs Prof. Tissa
Vitharana told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
It will enable the TNA and the Government to exchange views and reach
consensus of which all participating political parties will be
stakeholders. They need to hold discussions with the Government to
arrive at such consensus, he said.
He said so when asked for his comments on TNA parliamentarian Suresh
Premachandren’s statement to the Sunday Observer that they have so far
not decided on their representatives to the PSC because their experience
with the Government during the past three years has been disappointing.
Prof. Vitharana who was Chairman of the All Party Representative
Committee (APRC) that held several rounds of talks on the issue and
submitted a report to the Government said that he was confident that the
interests of the Tamil community, in particular, and also of all other
communities can be addressed in a just and fair manner with the
implementation of the PSC solution since it will be provided with the
legal framework needed for the purpose.
