Former editor Pieris remembered
The 15th death anniversary of former Sunday Observer chief editor
Harold Pieris falls today. He served as the chief editor of the Sunday
Observer and The Daily Observer from 1977 to 1988.
An old Josephian, Pieris joined the Daily News as a sub-editor after
graduating from the University of Ceylon. He also served the Daily News
as its news editor. He had also served as the Chief Administrative
Officer of the ANCL Editorial Department. He occupied that top seat in
the Sunday Observer Editorial for 12 years during the entire J.R.
Jayewardene presidency. Peiris was a close associate and confidante of
Esmond Wickremesinghe.
