President points out shortcomings at DDC meeting
President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed officials at the Polonnaruwa
District Development committee meeting to rectify all shortcomings in
the district. The meeting was held at Sudu Araliya Hotel, Polonnaruwa.
The President focused attention on a series of important issues such
as conservation of water for drinking and agriculture, repairs to
reservoirs and educating the farmers on the safer use of chemical
fertiliser and agro-chemicals so that its ill-effects could be minimised.
He also reiterated the importance of improving the quality of road
development projects. Preservation of the sacred area and upgrading
infrastructure to provide better facilities for tourists were also
discussed.
The President instructed the official to implement a program to
overcome the dearth of teachers in the district and stressed the need to
recruit more science, mathematics and English teachers.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Johnston Fernando, Nimal Siripala de
Silva, Bandula Gunawardena, Tissa Karaliyadda, NCP Governor Karunaratna
Diulgane, Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Presidential
Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B.
Jayaundera also participated.
