Investigations on missing animal heads continue

Continuing investigations on the three missing heads of animals from the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwela, the Police yesterday assured that they will find the lost items soon.

The Zoo Authorities made the complaint on Friday to the Dehiwela Police following their investigation into the incident, according to Director of the Zoological Garden Bashwara Gunarathna. Yesterday, the Dehiwela Police arrested a suspect, an employee of the Zoological Gardens, based on their investigations.

"An employee of the Zoo informed me on May 27 that three animal heads kept in the cold room of the Zoo Hospital have gone missing. Immediately, we initiated an investigation followed by another investigation from the Economic Development Ministry carried out by the Chief Internal Auditor," Gunarathna explained.

"We are broadening our investigation to find whether this has happened in the past and to see whether other employees are involved. We have been very strict on our monitoring and checking procedures. We will take all possible measures to avoid such incidents in the future," he added.
