Elephant could be used as an icon for tourism- Srilal Miththapala
Project director of the EU funded Switch Asia program -- Greening Sri
Lanka Hotels Project (GSLH) implemented by the Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce and former president of Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka
(THASL), Srilal Miththapala, said the Sri Lankan elephant could be used
as an icon for tourism. He was speaking to members of the Women's
Chamber.
Drawing on his experience in tourism and studying and observing wild
elephants, he said worldwide interest in Sri Lankan elephants can be
leveraged to promote Sri Lankan tourism. The event was sponsored by The
Responsible Tourism Partnership (RTP), a Sri Lanakan-based NGO which is
in operation since 2007 and works towards improving livelihood through
tourism. It is also an associated partner with GSLH project.
