Zigo mobile phones launched

Zigo mobile phones in Sharjah and owned by Serendib Ventures FZC was
launched in Sri Lanka last week. The phones will be distributed in Sri
Lanka by Cellcity and plans are under way to launch the brand in the
SAARC region and Africa from Sri Lanka, said CEO ICT Mobile Technologies
Serendib Ventures FZC, Thusha Weerasooriya. He said that they will
launch tablet PCs and ICT solutions in addition to mobile handsets based
on green energy solutions.
Union Assurance helps fight Dengue
Union Assurance PLC (UA) and the Ministry of Health launched a Dengue
awareness campaign. Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Palitha
Mahipala said that Sri Lanka was vulnerable to Dengue and prevention is
important to curb it from spreading.
He said that all stakeholders should get involved and UA's
involvement in the program was noteworthy as the public will be
educated. CEO of UA, Dirk Perera said that Sri Lanka is on a development
drive which results in urbanisation. One of the ill effects of
urbanisation, is the rapid spread of Dengue.
Spa Ceylon gives Ceylon Tea a new dimension
Entrepreneurial brothers, Shiwantha Dias and Shalin Balasuriya, have
introduced a range of spa formulae, bath and body care and treatment
products infused with 100 percent Pure Ceylon Tea.
“Our intention is to enter 10 to 15 EU markets starting with the UK
by the end of the year. We also plan to set up our own retail operations
in India around the same time; we intend taking Spa Ceylon and our age
old Ayurveda traditions across the globe”, they said.
B I D Quality Award for Elcardo
The International Quality Summit Award, Gold category was awarded to
Elcardo Industries (Pvt.) Limited at the annual awards ceremony held in
New York recently. Managing Director Athula Rohan Weeraratne, received
the award from the President of the Business Initiative Directions (B I
D) Jose E. Prieto, which covers 178 countries.
The Award recognises the commitment to quality among companies in
business, industrial production and services. Prieto said that companies
which have been awarded were symbols of commitment to leadership,
technology and innovation making them models for others in their
sectors.
Noritzu 3801 HD introduced

Noritzu company Japan introduced its latest high quality machine
Noritzu 3801 HD at Seya Colour, Kalubowila recently. This is the first
machine to be introduced in the South Asian Region. Director of Seya
Colour,Athula Dias was optimistic that photographers will come for
quality photographs to be printed at Seya Colour.
New CEO for Orient Wealth

Abans launch Mac Mini
Abans launched Apple’s Mac Mini. The portable CPU is an inch and a
half in length. It has a sleek aluminium design, easy access to memory
and a built-in power supply. The HDMI Port can connect the Mac Mini to
the HDTV with a single cable.
Other products from the Apple Range are Quad-Core Processors,
Thunderbolt Technology and FaceTime HD Camera and the Apple MacBook Pro
Multi Finance Colombo branch re-locates
Multi Finance PLC (MF) PLC relocated its Colombo branch and Corporate
office to Colombo 3. Chairman of MF PLC Kuvera De Soyza , Group
Executive Director andCEO A.H.M. Riyaz and General Manager, Shirantha
Gannoruwa were present. Chairman De Soyza said MF has plans to venture
out and that there will be additions to its branch network expansion
plan.
Abans staff organise Dansala
As a Corporate Social Responsibility, Abans Group organised a Dansala
and a lantern competition, to make a contribution to the community. It
was the seventh annual Poson Dansala on Havelock Road. The event was
opened by Director of Abans Group, P.N Pestonjee.
The evening session was opened by Chairperson of Abans Group, Ms.
Abans Pestonjee. For the first time, Abans staff also organised 'Poson
Sithuvili', a lantern competition. Different departments of various
companies within the Abans Group participated in the competition. Cost
efficiency and eco-friendliness were the themes.
Airtel inks global deal with Opera
To offer co-branded Opera Mini browsers to customers across India and
South Asia, Bharti Airtel, said that it has signed a global arrangement
with Opera Software to offer a customised and co-branded version of
Opera Mini internet browser for Airtel mobile customers across its
operations.
With this, over 253 million Airtel customers across countries
including India, South Asia and Africa will now leverage Opera Mini’s
unique proxy-server-based technology to compress data by up to 90
percent and decrease data transfer costs.
COM Bank - 'Best Sri Lankan Trade Bank 2012’
The Commercial Bank has been adjudged ‘Best Sri Lankan Trade Bank’
for 2012 by the UK's ‘Trade Finance’ magazine. This is the third
occasion that Commercial Bank has been honoured with the Trade Finance
Award since the introduction of an award for this category in 2009.
“An independently polled third-party assessment of this nature is
particularly encouraging, and a fitting reward for all the hard work put
in by our team,” said Jegan Durairatnam, Chief Operating Officer of
Commercial Bank.
New warehouse for Maliban Biscuits
Maliban Biscuits Manufactories commissioned a warehouse in Ratmalana
recently. Allied Trading and Engineering (Pvt) Ltd which handles the
material handling segment since 1995, installed a double deep racking
system which accommodates approximately 928 pallet positions.
