Police probe diesel pilferage

Police have launched an investigation on the pilfering of diesel on a large-scale from the Hambantota port and the Mattala airport sites. Engineers at these sites have complained to the police that diesel is being pilfered by unscrupulous businessmen from trucks with the connivance of certain employees.

A spokesman for the Hambantota Headquarters police said that they raided a shop near the Hambantota port and took in for questioning a suspect with 780 litres of diesel.

Police Sergeants Nishatna, Nimal and PC Premaratne and several police officers participated in the raid.
