Former Nalandian cricketer D.N. Seneviratne dies
Death of Nalandian cricketer..... Nalanda Vidyalaya lost one of their
erstwhile cricketers when D.N. Seneviratne died last Friday, June 15.
Born in 1925, he entered Nalanda in 1938 and was a student until 1942
and was in the Senior forms.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter who are now
living in Omanththa in Elpitiya.The funeral takes place today.
All-Island Choir Festival - 2012
The Institute of Western Music and Speech has organised the All
Island Choir Festival 2012 to nurture and encourage young talent. The
competition is open to all choirs in the junior, senior and open
categories, inclusive of mixed, female and male choirs.
Attractive trophies and cash awards will be presented to the winners
and runners-up along with certificates of participation to all. The
Semi-finals will be on September 15 at the Russian Cultural Centre and
the Finals on September 22 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
The closing date for entries is July 16 and entry forms could be
obtained from I.W.M.S., No. 12, Kotalawala Gardens, Colombo 4.

‘Hulftsdorp Debates 2012’
The ‘Hulftsdorp Debates 2012’, organised by the English Literary
Association (ELA) of the Sri Lanka Law College, will be held on July 7
and 8 at the Sri Lanka Law College premises. The ‘Hulftsdorp Debates’ is
the first and only debate competition exclusively between universities
of Sri Lanka and will witness many of Sri Lanka’s talented young
speakers debating in one arena.
SLLA Awards 2012 on June 22
The institutions and organisations who were nominated for the 2012
SLLA Awards for their outstanding contributions will receive their
awards at the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Library
Association on June 22 at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
The National Science Foundation, for its outstanding contribution
towards Science and Technology Information, The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka
and the Sri Lanka Book Publishes' Association for publicising Sri Lankan
Publication Nationally and Internationally will receive awards.
