Malay Cricket Club's Motor Rally June 23

MOTOR RALLY: The Colombo Malay Cricket Club, the oldest cricket playing club in the country, is set to celebrate their 140th anniversary in style by organising a Motor Rally 'Head Over Wheels' on June 23 starting at 1.00pm.

To make the event more competitive, the route of the rally will be disclosed only on that day. The rally route will move through urban and suburban areas with many obstacles and mind boggling clues. The winner of the Rally will be ascertained on the best timing with the least number of debit points. The driver and the navigator would be the co-entrants while two others could join to assist. Not more than four persons could be permitted per vehicle.

This year the event is more significant as it coincides with the 140 year celebration of the club. The event should draw more participants and even more surprises. Many prizes are on offer for the winners with attractive trophies, air tickets, high resolution camera for the runners-up and more prizes to make the event a memorable one.

The Rally is being held for the third year and past participants said that it was an experience not felt before and enjoyed every moment of it although they did not win.

'It is a milestone year for the Ceylon Malay Cricket Club which is the oldest cricket playing club in the country which has a rich history spanning 140 years. In its early days it was a force to be reckoned with, competing on even footing with the likes of CCC and Colts CC," said the President of the Club T.Y. Raheem.

The President of the club Raheem added that the club is fortunate to be one of the body formed to administer cricket in the country. This interesting story dates back to 1922, the CMCC being a founder member that formed the All Ceylon Cricket Association the country's first centralized cricket administration in 1948.

This Motor Rally which is held for the third time, is sponsored by Janashakthi Insurance, Dimo, Sea Master, The Motor Magazine, Holiday Resorts Travels with air tickets from Metropolitan Agencies, and Real Radio. (RA)
