Annual Kataragama festival begins

The Kataragama annual Esala festival 2012 was started on Thursday
with the flag hoisting ceremony at the Kataragama mosque with the
participation of incumbent of Sri Abhinavaramaya and Chief Adhikarana
Sanganayaka of Ruhunu Magam pattuwa, Ven.Shastrapathi Kapugama
Saranatissa Thera, Ven.Middeniye Uditha Thera of Kirivehera, Kurukkal of
Badrakali temple, Basnayake Nilame and Uva Chief Minister
Sashindrakumara Rajapaksa the trustee of the mosque Al Haj M.H.Gaffar,
Moneragala G.A. and Esala camp officer A.Pathinadan, Kataragama
Divisional Secretary,
T.B.M.Atapattu, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Presidential
Secretariat, Pathmasiri Rajapaksa and Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims
devotees.
Addressing the gathering Ven.Kapugama Saranatissa Thera said that
unity and amity of all the communities is strengthened by religious
programs.
The Basnayake Nilame Sashindrakumara Rajapaksa said that this
religious program was a good example to show the world about the
communal harmony in Sri Lanka.Al Haj M.H. Gaffar said as soon as he was
appointed as the trustee of this mosque he started this religious
program in such a way as to promote the communal and religious harmony
of the devotees visiting Kataragama Sacred City. He said that his son
would continue the good work he started in future too. Ven.Middeniye
Uditha Thera and kurukkal of Badrakali temple also spoke.
