Lankan Ayurveda centres in Japan soon

Wisenet Company Limited President Yukinori Takahasi briefs the media while other delegation members look on.

Plans are afoot to set up 500 Sinhala Ayurveda treatment centres in Japan, President of Wisenet Company Limited Yukinori Takahasi said.

He told a media briefing in Colombo that a large number of Sri Lankan Ayurveda doctors will be employed in the medical centres. The support of Sri Lanka will be sought in this endeavour. He said the delegation held discussions with Minister of Indigenous Medicines Salinda Dissanayake on this matter.

Takahasi said that they will use Sri Lankan Ayurvedic medicines to improve treatment at elders homes in Japan. Ayurvedic medicines for the centres will be obtained from Sri Lanka. A large amount of foreign exchange can be earned through the export of herbs to Japan. Consul General of Sri Lanka in Japan Sunil Gamage plays a key role in setting up these medical centres in Japan, according to Takahasi.

He said discussions were held with Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to commence the cultivation of sea-weeds and sea-plants in Sri Lanka.

The excess production will be exported to Japan.
