The soldiers clearly dominated the first half with their three quarter line at full gear and went on to plant four tries which one was converted to a penalty scored by CH and FC.

Army drew first blood almost with the kick off in the second minute when winger Madusanka Chandrasekera gave the finishing touches to a three quarter move. In the 27th minute of the match winger Steve Kunapuwa made a strong dash to beat several 'CH' players to score by the right corner flag and the soldiers were soon with a ten points lead. But the home team after missing a relatively easy penalty, reduced the lead when Nalin Kumara made no mistake with a kick.

The soldiers struck once again when Dinesh Suranga fell over off a move from a line out. Upali Wickremasinghe gave them the extra points. The army had a good first half when Saliya Handapangoda touched down for an unconverted try and the soldiers led 22-3 at half time.

On resumption CH and FC came back strongly with their forwards and backs combining well and did not permit their opponents to forge ahead.

They scored in the 14th minute when Steve Nelson broke off from a maul and scored an unconverted try. CH and FC gave all the indications of coming back in the first 25 minutes in the second half by keeping their opponents at bay. But mid way due to a defensive laps Army got the break and Chamila Silva powered his way to touch down. Upali Wickremasinghe added the extra points.

The soldiers increased their tally further when skipper and prop Nisal Meepage touched down off a line out. During the latter part of the match CH and FC had some consolation when they reduced the deficit through a try scored by Somei Kolio.

Referee: Priyantha Gunaratne.
