The Z score issue and human smuggling racket were hot topics throughout last week.

The news of 'Colombo South City' project also grabbed public attention.

All students under Z score will gain university admission

Q: Will the students who had qualified for university admission under Z score subjected to any injustice?

A: All students who had qualified under the Z score system will gain admission to universities.

Q: If, so are the existing facilities adequate to accommodate a large intake?

A: The Government decided to bear the additional expenses. The existing clinical and technical training facilities will be expanded.

 

A modern sea city in Colombo soon

Q: Could you elaborate on the 'Colombo South City Project'?

A: The government completed mega projects such as the 'Hambantota Port' and 'Southern Highway'. The Colombo South City Project will be a similar project. These sea city will be built by reclaiming 575 acres of the sea .

Q:When will it be completed?

A: The time frame is six years. It will take three years to fill the sea. Similar projects were launched in recent by Singapore and Dubai. The Colombo South City estimated to cost US$ 900 million will have all the facilities of a modern city.

Q: More details about the human smuggling racket have been revealed during the past week. Some key LTTEers were also actively involved in this operation. Can you elaborate on this?

A: A leading LTTE activist who is a nominee to the Eastern PC in the forthcoming election is in remand custody at present.

Q: How many of those fleeing to Australia have been rounded up by the police and naval authorities during the last few weeks.

A: A total of 598 people have been apprehended in twelve occasions when the boats carrying them were intercepted by the authorities.
