CR and FC who are going through one of their lean rugby seasons suffered their straight fifth defeat at the hands of Up Country Lions in their Dialog 'A' division rugby league match played at Longden Place yesterday.

The final scoreline for the winners Up Country Lions were 34 points (two goals, four tries) to 7 (a goal). A terribly weak CR and FC outfit after some of their players crossing over did not have much to offer to a stronger Up Country Lions who scored four tries in the first half of which one was converted to a goal and had a healthy 22-0 lead at the breather. In the fifth minute of the match the Up Country team opened scoring when full back Rajitha Sansoni collected the ball and dashed to score. Sansoni himself taking the kick failed to add the extra points. In the 14th minute Sansoni missed a penalty within kicking distance, but Sashan Mohammed went on to plant an unconverted try.

Then winger Vishawamithra Jayasinghe covered good ground on the right flank to score. Sansoni a left footer missed both the conversions. Before 'lemons' Sajith Saranga made a break through to touch down and Sansoni made no mistake with the kick to make it 22-nil. In a scrappy second half fly half Srinath Sooriyabandara scored for the visitors and the try went unconverted. Then the 'Red Shirts' were partially rewarded for their hard work when Prop Nipuna Devinda scored off a forward rush and Lasintha de Costa gave them the much needed extra points.

The Up Country Lions sealed their superiority when Centre Radhika Hettiarachchi touched down under the post for Sansoni to add the extra points.

Referee: Paul MaCkay from Dubai.
